Di benedicaris vos.
On this occasion of activity, let us open this article with a short contemplation on music:
Sergei Rachmaninov’s Vespers, Op.37 — Praise Ye the Name of the Lord.
The Collegio Sacerdae and the Sandum Cultural Authority, working cooperatively, announce the start of two new cultural projects. The Collegio Sacerdae shall be focusing on making Sancta versions of important Christian hymns, such as the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom per Tchaikovsky and the All-Night Vigil (Op.37) by Rachmaninov. The Sandum Cultural Authority shall set to working on the naming conventions for individuals in Sandus.
The Collegio Sacerdae shall provide new hymns in the Sancta spiritual beliefs to several gods and functions of Sandum religions. Represented shall be Buddhism and the Polytheist beliefs of Sandus and these shall be available for future use, when the possibly of choral music in terms of Collegio rites shall become important. Though the possibilities, as they are currently, are minimal, a whole selection of Eastern Orthodox liturgies and hymns may be taken so as to “Sanctafy” them for our own uses. For the purposes of Sandum culture and of the Collegio Sacerdae, these hymns will form the basis of our spiritual music.
The Sandum Cultural Authority shall work with deliberation on constructing a naming convention, formula, and process to make typical Western names into a Sandum name. At the moment, this is done by citizens who wish to transform their names into more Sandum names, such the Sôgmô’s regnal name of Gaius Sörgel Publicola. The SCA will pursue a formula and convention which will be gender and sexually equal and shall not side with either lineage. Following in some traditions, such as those of Latin Americans, both the patrilineal and matrilineal lines will be expressed and used. Some discussion has already been made to the formula as it will act as a potentially extended version of Roman names with praenomina (prenames), nomina (last names), and cognomina (nicknames). For instance, the potential list of cognomina may be long and include various descriptors: sex, gender, physical appearance, ethnicity, home locality, occupation, politics, patronym and matronym, and so on. The exact placement of all these will be long and complicated, but there has also been talk of awarding one’s self their own name at a coming-of-age ceremony that the SCA and Collegio will have to explore further as this institution takes place. A potential example, using the Sôgmô includes:
Gaius Sörgel-Willis Publicola Hommo Terrae-Marriae Etudianta Philipe Marcia
